All-female financial planning team takes second place in national competition

“Megan, Britta and Ana represent the first all-female team to compete from K-State and one of the first to compete nationally,” said Martin Seay, head of the personal financial planning department. “The team’s accomplishments are a testament to women’s success in financial planning. Although the number of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER â„¢ professionals has experienced strong growth nationwide, women represent only 23% of the workforce.

“It’s really a feather in K-State’s hat for the PFP program,” said the PFP advisory board member and Excel COO. Mike Miller. “We work with independent finance professionals from across the country and see firsthand the dearth of minorities and women in the profession. For this reason, we have invested in PFP scholarships to address this issue specifically. “

Each year, the Financial Planning Competition engages students in a holistic financial planning learning experience and increases awareness in the professional community and organizations that support the profession. The challenge is done in three phases. In the first phase, students receive the profiles of two hypothetical clients and prepare a comprehensive financial plan. Eight teams are then selected to move on to phase two, which is an oral presentation of a case study. The final phase is the “How do you know that?” Danger style challenge.

The Financial Planning Association (FPA®) is the premier professional organization for Certified Financial Planners (CFP®), educators, financial service providers and students who wish to advance in a dynamic and growing profession.
