Cougars and Tigers draw 2-2

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –The University of Houston Football Program won a 2-2 tie against American Athletic Conference opponent Memphis on Thursday night at the Billy J. Murphy Soccer/Track & Field Complex.

Houston (4-4-2, 1-1-1 American) opened the ball in 11e minute of action when the midfielder Caitlyn Matthews found the back of the net following a corner, assisted by the defender Emma Clark.

The Cougars increased their lead to 62n/a minute when forward Nadia Kamassah scored her second goal of the season, assisted by the defender Alex Whitcraft and midfield Samantha Wihe.

Memphis (4-3-4, 0-0-3 American) fought their way to the board in 85e minute with Mya Jones scoring a corner kick reducing Houston’s lead to 2-1.

The Tigers kept fighting and sealed the tie 2-2 in 88e minute of play on a goal by Jocelyn Alonzo.

Earning her 11th start of the season, the goalkeeper Haley Woodward had seven saves in the game. Memphis outshot Houston 23-3 with the Cougars’ three shots on goal.

The Cougars will return Carl Lewis International Complex and take a break from the USA action to take on UTSA at 2 p.m. Sunday for HISD day.

All children (12 and under) will receive free entry with their youth jerseys and are welcome to visit the Kids Zone prior to the game. After the game is over, select Houston Soccer student-athletes will be available for autograph signing.
