Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Svenja Schulze, German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, to discuss the seventh replenishment of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund ) as well as the global food security crisis.
Administrator Power expressed gratitude for Germany’s tremendous leadership and financial support in global health, including COVID-19 emergency response needs and strong health security support world. She said the United States joins Germany in recognizing the critical role Global Fund investments play in getting the world back on track to end these three infectious diseases and strengthen health systems. The United States is hosting the Seventh Global Fund Replenishment Conference in New York in September.
Administrator Power and Minister Schulze also discussed efforts to partner to protect the world’s most vulnerable populations, including treatment for acute malnutrition, from the escalating global food security crisis exacerbated by the unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine.
